Wiltshire Core Strategy

Wiltshire Core Strategy
From 1 April 2009, the current district councils of Kennet, North Wiltshire, Salisbury and West Wiltshire, along with the existing Wiltshire County Council, were replaced by the new unitary authority to be known as Wiltshire Council.  The new council is moving towards a common planning policy base for the whole of Wiltshire and to this end is preparing a new Local Development Framework (LDF).

Perhaps the most important document within the LDF will be the Wiltshire Core Strategy, which will set out the spatial vision and objectives for the Council area. 

Sustainability Appraisal
An important component of the LDF will be the Sustainability Appraisal (SA). This process helps to ensure that any social, economic or environmental impacts of a policy or proposal are taken into account as the policy or proposal is developed.  The first stage is to prepare a Scoping Report that sets out environmental and sustainable development objectives.

A draft Wiltshire Council Scoping Report was prepared which drew upon and updates work already completed by the four district councils.  This Scoping Report set out the scope of the SA which will apply to any new LDF documents such as the Wiltshire Core Strategy.

The draft Wiltshire Council Sustainability Appraisal Scoping Report was published for consultation for a five week period earlier this year (2009).
