Ps and Qs plays a role throughout Wiltshire through active participation in the Area Partnership and through mentoring other local groups. Ps and Qs is mostly self-funded, though at various times, it has received funding from the parish council, the district council and, regionally, from the Rural Development Association. We have had our own Climate Change programme since 2006 called Cool Communities which promotes energy conservation and efficiency (an important distinction that almost no other programme makes) as embodied in our Cool Tips which provides lots of information about simple actions that we can all do to lessen the impact of climate change. We have a Transform Purton programme that addresses the problem of increasing resource shortages (e.g. energy) to see how to prepare Purton for the future. This is similar to the more national Transition Towns programme but our programme recognises that much of everyday living cannot be de-coupled from the realities of how our current lifestyles rely on mass-delivery of energy, water, waste, food and so on. |
