Planning has taken centre stage in the drive to establish sustainable communities enabling local authorities to progress the strategic vision for their areas. The local planning authority must now adopt an all-encompassing, more practical approach and reflect community aspirations and include non-mappable statistics, such as social and economic considerations for the area.

Central to this new approach is the Local Development Framework (LDF) – the overarching strategy defining an authority’s vision for the communities under its jurisdiction.
