The idea for an environmental group arose after a talk to the Women's Institute (the Evening group) in 1994.
One of the first actions of the group when it was set up in 1994 was to meet and come up with a name. After a classic brainstorming session with everyone throwing in ideas, Ps and Qs emerged based on the idea of being careful about something ("minding your ps and qs") and that we were about quality of village life issues (Purton's quality of life) not just "nature" which is often used synonymously for "environment".
