The document that determines planning policy for Purton and Purton Stoke for the next ten years or so, and pretty much determines what the villages physically will look like, is coming under scrutiny at a public inquiry this month. The NORTH WILTSHIRE LOCAL PLAN inquiry will open at 10.00am on Tuesday 7 June in the Town Hall at Chippenham and will last for about six weeks.
Ps and Qs will be appearing on five separate occasions during the six weeks. During this period, the Inspector, Mr Gwynn Rowlands will consider the remaining objections to the previous versions of the Plan.
The total number of objections made to the Local Plan is 3574 from 683 individuals and organisations, including several from Ps and Qs. At the Inquiry, individual objectors hold a discussion around a table concerning the main issues. The Inspector will lead the discussion. Although there will be no formal presentation of cases or cross-examination by legal representatives, cross-questioning between the participants is permitted. Proofs of Evidence have to be submitted in advance and form the core of any arguments advanced during the inquiry. Ps and Qs submitted 36 proofs expressing opinion and argument on a variety of topics in the Plan, ranging from planning and transport policy to affordable homes, businesses in rural locations, to waste, composting, landscape issues and of course the rural buffer.
In addition to the general issues on the plan, the following sites for potential development are also being discussed: Widham Farm, Restrop Road, and Willis Way in Purton, and Purton Road, Swindon
All the proofs of evidence are available on the Ps and Qs web site here and from the parish council. The Ps and Qs network grows daily so, if you would like to be kept informed on village issues, just email advice@purtoninfo.org.uk and we will put you on the mailing list.
